On September 7, the Joliet Herald-News honored 16 individuals in our community as Everyday Heroes. Among these 16 Everyday Heroes was Eric Kimble, who volunteers his time as a youth basketball coach at the C.W. Avery Family YMCA.

On behalf of the Y and all the kids in our youth basketball leagues, we would like to congratulate Coach Kimble on this award. Thank you for being an amazing mentor and leader in the community.  In our eyes, you truly are an everyday hero!

New Swim Programs

This fall, the Galowich Family YMCA will debut two new swimming programs, including a sensory-friendly swim experience and a homeschool swim program.

Second Sunday Sensory Swim

Sensory-friendly swim times will feature no music and little-to-no whistle use by our lifeguards. Swimmers will also be provided with an assortment of toys to play with during their time in the pool.

Sundays, from 2:30-3:30 p.m.

  • September 9
  • October 14
  • November 11
  • December 9

Cost:

  • YMCA Facility Member Families: Free Family Admission
  • Community Member Families: $8 Per Family

Homeschool Swim

Parents looking for a class to supplement a physical education curriculum will find it in the Y’s new Homeschool Open Swim program. Designed for every member of your family, this exciting new program will be held on Monday afternoons at the Galowich Family YMCA.

September 10-November 12
Mondays, 2-4 p.m.

Cost:

  • Free for YMCA Facility Members
  • Community Members are invited to purchase a 10-visit family punch pass for $50.

Celebrating the Grand Opening of the C.W. Avery Family YMCA Wellness Center

Wellness Center Plainfield Ribbon Cutting

The C.W. Avery Family YMCA celebrated the grand opening of its expanded Wellness Center on Friday, July 27, alongside many Plainfield city officials and YMCA board members, volunteers, members and staff. Open seven days a week, the newly renovated Wellness Center gives the community a special space to focus on their health and well-being with many new features, including:

  • A new group exercise room
  • An abundance of new strength and cardio machines
  • A private personal training area
  • A new group cycling room

GROWING STRONGER TOGETHER

The Greater Joliet Area YMCA has been serving Will County families, regardless of age, income or background since 1928 and with the expansion of the C.W. Avery Family YMCA, the Y is able to provide additional exercise space to Y members. Plainfield Mayor Michael P. Collins described the expansion as a “jewel” of the Plainfield community and a “diamond” to Will County.

Before and After School Kid Zone

Registration Now Underway

In the YMCA’s Before and After School program, kids participate in physical, learning and imaginative activities that encourage them to explore who they are and what they can achieve. Kids have fun, make new friends and create memories that last a lifetime.

Program Hours:

Monday through Friday, on school days
Before School: 7-9 a.m.
After School: 3-6 p.m.
