Over the past year or so, we’ve gotten to know the Zelkos quite well. It’s like Amanda and John, both 30, and their little ones, Johnny, 5, and Billie, 3, are an extended part of our Y family. When we think about the core values of the Y—respect, responsibility, honesty and caring—we think of them.
Amanda and John use the Y regularly to stay active and be healthy. But for them, the Y is more than just a gym. It’s a place where they build friendships. A place where they feel a sense of community. A place where not only they can better themselves, but their kids can, too.
Johnny and Billie typically tag along during workouts and go to Kids Corner or take a preschool class. According to Amanda, an increase in social activity has worked wonders for both of them. Over the summer, Johnny attended two sessions of Fishing Camp and still talks about it to this day. Billie, who has delayed speech, has built more confidence as a result of the classes she’s taken.
We look forward to many more years of getting to know the Zelkos. Maybe one day, we’ll even meet their WHOLE family, which includes their three dogs, two cats, 10 chickens, three ducks and a pig. Here’s to hoping!
