During our Tell a Friend Summer Referral Special – Part 2.0, YMCA members will receive a $25 credit for each employee they refer to the YMCA.

System credits will be issued to members’ accounts after the referred employee completes 60 days of employment. System credits can be used towards YMCA programs and membership dues, and will expire on December 31, 2021.

C.W. Avery Family YMCA Set to Host Employment Open Houses

At the Y, we know that learning doesn’t end when the school bell rings. The way children spend time outside the classroom can make a big difference in their personal development and family-life balance. The Y’s Kid Zone program provides a safe place for children to keep their mind and body active while learning social skills and positive values.

In preparation for the upcoming school year, the YMCA is looking to add talented, qualified, and positive part-time employees to its before and after school team. We are currently hiring Kid Zone counselors, site coordinators, and site supervisors to work at school locations in Plainfield, Romeoville, and Bolingbrook. All Kid Zone employees must be 18 years of age or older.

NOW HIRING

-Starting at $11-17 per hour, based on experience.

-Hours are from 7-9 a.m. and 3-6 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Part-Time Kid Zone Employees receive the following benefits:

  • On the job training
  • A free Y membership and generous program discounts
  • Kid Zone employees may also enroll their program-eligible children in Kid Zone at no cost.

J-Power USA Donates $5,000 to YMCA Kid Zone PLUS

Through its commitment to youth development, the Y nurtures the potential of every child in its Kid Zone PLUS programs by incorporating the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in a resource-rich environment for children in grades K-8. Although the current public health crisis has presented new challenges, the Y has worked diligently with its partner school districts to adapt its child care programs to meet the needs of families in Will and Grundy Counties. These efforts are made possible through the generosity of organizations like J-Power USA, which recently provided a $5,000 donation in support of the YMCA Mission Strong Fund and Kid Zone PLUS. 

The Mission Strong Fund was established to help ensure the long-term sustainability of the YMCA in the wake of our COVID-19 related closure and aid continued community service efforts after our reopening. By supporting Mission Strong, the donation will provide assistance to multiple Greater Joliet Area YMCA youth development initiatives including:

  • Providing much-needed financial assistance for Kid Zone PLUS families who are experiencing hardships due to COVID-19.
  • Adapting our youth programs to incorporate lower staff-to-child ratios to meet social distancing guidelines.
  • Implementing new safety guidelines in our child care and youth enrichment programs.

The Y would like to thank J-Power USA for this donation and the role it will play in providing important services to students and families this school year.

M&M Bank Donates $5,000 to Support Kid Zone PLUS Programs at the YMCA

Although the start of the school year has looked a little different for many families in our community, the Y has remained dedicated to working with our partner school districts to provide much-needed child care through our new Kid Zone PLUS program. Through its commitment to youth development, the Y nurtures the potential of every child by incorporating the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in a resource-rich environment for children in grades K-8. These efforts are made possible through the generosity of organizations like M&M Bank, which recently awarded a $5,000 grant in support of the YMCA Mission Strong Fund and Kid Zone PLUS. 

This generous grant was donated through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago Targeted Impact Fund, which was created to provide relief for populations hardest-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and promote racial equity in communities across Illinois and Wisconsin.

By supporting Mission Strong, the donation will provide assistance to multiple Greater Joliet Area YMCA youth development initiatives including:

  • Providing much-needed financial assistance for Kid Zone PLUS families who are experiencing hardships due to COVID-19.
  • Adapting our youth programs to incorporate lower staff-to-child ratios to meet social distancing guidelines.
  • Implementing new safety guidelines in our child care and youth enrichment programs.

Support the YMCA’s Fall School Supply Drive

With the new school year set to get underway in the coming weeks, the Y remains dedicated to providing much-needed child care for area families through its Kid Zone and Kid Zone PLUS programs. YMCA members are invited to help support these efforts by participating in our Fall School Supply Drive.

From August 17-31, the Y will be accepting donations of paper towels and tissues at its four facilities. Collection bins will be placed near the Membership Desk. These supplies will be used in the coming months at Kid Zone sites throughout our community.

Galowich Family YMCA and Smith Family YMCA Committed to Serving Area Families this School Year

As a provider of important before and after school care, the Galowich and Smith Family YMCAs have the distinct pleasure of working each day with youth in the Joliet area. With the start of the new school year quickly approaching, we are continuing to monitor updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local, state and federal health officials to ensure our YMCA is prepared to safely welcome students this fall.

Although the start of the school year will look a little different for many of our families, we remain dedicated to working with our partner school districts to provide much-needed child care. We are currently working with these school districts to finalize our plans for the fall, and look forward to sharing these details in the days and weeks ahead.

Because we are anticipating some changes to our traditional Kid Zone program based on the districts’ instructional plan for the fall, registered Kid Zone families will have the opportunity to opt-in or opt-out of the program without penalty once the districts finalize plans for the 2020-2021 school year. By registering for Kid Zone now, families will secure child care for the fall and help the Y plan for staffing in advance of the school year getting underway.
