C.W. Avery Family YMCA Set to Host Senior Health and Wellness Fair on August 28

Area residents are invited to attend a free Health and Wellness Fair, which is designed to promote healthy living and connect area seniors with a variety of resources in the Plainfield area.

Celebrate National Senior Health and Fitness Day at the Galowich Family YMCA

National Senior Health and Fitness Day is Wednesday, May 25 and to celebrate the Galowich Family YMCA invites active older adults to explore various options of physical activity available at the Y. Stop by any of our fun activities and classes including:

Swimnastics with Amy
8-8:45 a.m.
This fun, high energy class promotes flexibility, improved circulation, muscle toning and cardiovascular conditioning.

Interval Strength Training with Janet
9:15-10 a.m. 
This consists of building strength, muscle and endurance.

Zumba with Janet
10:15-11 a.m.
This class fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-following moves!

ATI Physical Therapy 
12:30-1 p.m.
ATI will present age related exercises to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. Discussion will feature specific exercises for fall prevention as well as hand exercises to combat joint pain.

Cardio Interval with Alissa
5-5:45 p.m.
This class incorporates intervals of cardio endurance and muscle conditioning. Great for all fitness levels!

Yoga with Allene
6-6:45 p.m.
This is a workout for your body and mind including poses followed by stretching and relaxation.

Morris Community YMCA Receives $5,250 Grant from Ottawa Savings Bank

Although the Y has been challenged to adapt the way it serves the community during the COVID-19 public health crisis, it has remained dedicated to working with local partners to promote health and wellness for area residents. Through its commitment to encouraging members of all ages to embrace healthy living, the Y provides an array of programs for seniors ranging from fitness classes to social activities. These efforts are made possible through the generosity of organizations like Ottawa Savings Bank, which recently awarded a $5,250 grant to the Morris Community YMCA in support of the YMCA Mission Strong Fund. 

This generous grant was donated through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago Targeted Impact Fund, which was created to provide relief for populations hardest-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

These funds will provide assistance to multiple Y initiatives, including:

  • Providing much-needed financial assistance for children, families and seniors who are experiencing hardship due to COVID-19.
  • Providing valuable health and wellness programming for seniors and YMCA community members.
  • Implementing facility enhancements and new safety and social distancing guidelines at our YMCA locations.

The Y would like to thank Ottawa Savings Bank for this donation and the role it will play in providing important services to community members this fall.

Check out a thrilling, virtual show from magician Gary Kantor. Gary’s magic has been enjoyed by over 100,000 children over the years. The show is packed with vanishing acts, mind-reading tricks, and a variety of hilarious tricks that will have children rolling on the floor with laughter.
